Gainwell CAT unveiled the CAT® 355 Excavator at bauma CONEXPO India 2026, underscoring a strategic shift toward uptime, lifecycle value, and service-led growth.

Gainwell CAT, Caterpillar’s authorised dealer partner for North and East India, opened Day 1 of bauma CONEXPO India 2026 with the launch of the CAT® 355 Excavator at its booth (O.E20) at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida. The launch forms part of Gainwell CAT’s broader 2026 focus on enhancing machine uptime, extending lifecycle value and delivering a more services-led ownership experience for customers.

Designed for severe-duty applications, the CAT® 355 Excavator is engineered for quarry and mining operations where equipment faces demanding workloads and downtime carries significant costs. Its reinforced boom and stick, wide variable-gauge undercarriage and heavy counterweight enable the machine to handle large attachments, including hammers of up to 210 mm (8 inches), while maintaining stability and cycle times. Powered by a C13 engine and an electrohydraulic system, the excavator offers three selectable power modes—Power, Smart and Eco—allowing operators to tailor performance to the material being handled. In Smart mode, the machine automatically balances engine and hydraulic power to reduce fuel consumption during lighter digging applications. Rated for operation at altitudes of up to 4,500 metres and ambient temperatures reaching 52°C, the excavator is designed to address operating challenges in India’s harsher terrains, where machines can often face derating or restrictions, from high-altitude locations to peak-summer mining belts. Its high-efficiency hydraulic fan with reverse-flow capability helps keep the cores free of debris, while synchronised 1,000-hour filter service intervals are designed to minimise maintenance downtime, supporting Gainwell CAT’s focus on machine uptime throughout the equipment’s working life.

Alongside the product launch, Gainwell CAT used bauma CONEXPO India 2026 to outline its business priorities for the year ahead. A key focus for 2026 is its Machine Rebuild programme, aimed at extending the operational life of customers’ existing Cat fleets and providing an alternative to equipment replacement. At the same time, Customer Value Agreements (CVAs) remain central to Gainwell CAT’s service strategy, bringing together parts, maintenance and support under predictable and planned coverage.

Gainwell CAT’s service commitment is supported by one of the industry’s widest service networks, extending from the high-altitude terrain of Leh to deep mining operations at Rajpura Dariba in Rajasthan. The network reflects the CAT® 355 Excavator’s own operating capabilities, with the machine rated to perform at altitudes of up to 4,500 metres and in ambient temperatures of as much as 52°C, enabling it to operate to specification across the locations covered by Gainwell CAT’s service network. The company has also continued to invest in digital solutions aimed at transforming how customers monitor and manage their equipment, including CAT VisionLink for fleet and machine health monitoring, the Cat Central e-commerce platform for parts ordering, and Gainwell Vanijya.

The commitment is supported by one of the industry’s widest service networks, spanning from the high-altitude terrain of Leh to deep mining operations in Rajpura Dariba, Rajasthan. Reflecting the CAT® 355 Excavator’s operating capabilities, the network supports deployments across locations where the machine is rated to perform at altitudes of up to 4,500 metres and ambient temperatures of up to 52°C, enabling it to operate to specification wherever it is deployed within the network. Gainwell CAT has also been strengthening its digital capabilities to help customers monitor and manage their equipment more effectively, with solutions including CAT VisionLink for fleet and machine health monitoring, the Cat Central e-commerce platform for parts ordering, and Gainwell Vanijya.

Commenting on the day, Sunil Kumar Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Gainwell Commosales, said, “India’s infrastructure ambitions are only getting bigger, and that changes what customers expect from an equipment partner. It is no longer just about selling a machine. It is about making sure that machine keeps working through its entire life, wherever in North or East India it happens to be operating. That is the business we have built, and bauma is a good moment to show how much further we intend to take it.”

Manav Kohli, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Gainwell Commosales, added, “The CAT® 355 Excavator delivers higher production and loading capacity per hour that is needed by our customers for mining and large construction projects, with higher fuel efficiency and reliability that such projects demand. A good machine is one part of the value. We back the high productivity of CAT® 355 with cost-effective CAT® Customer Value Agreements that ensure high availability and low cost per tonne assurance. This is what actually determines the return our customers see on their investment.”

The numbers bear that out: the 355 delivers up to 296 kN of bucket digging force and is built around an operating weight of up to 53,000 kg, giving it the muscle to hold its own in quarry and mining cycles where every extra pass eats into a customer’s margin.

Further, Akanksha Chaturvedi, Executive Director and Chief Growth Officer, Gainwell Commosales, added, “At the heart of all we do is our value of Customer centricity. We take immense pride in helping solve our customers toughest problems, whether on ground with our offerings, or virtually, making sure we stay connected with them through every stage of their journey. Our focus is on making ownership simpler, transparent and more responsive. Whether it is helping customers monitor machine health through VisionLink™, order parts through Cat® Central, or engage with us more seamlessly through Gainwell Vanijya, we are using digital platforms to make every interaction more efficient. Ultimately, it is about making ownership simpler and helping customers get the most from their equipment.”

The launch of the CAT® 355 Excavator, alongside Gainwell CAT’s broader services-led initiatives, reinforces its positioning as Caterpillar’s long-term dealer partner for construction, mining and power systems across the region. Supported by an extensive network, the company serves customers across geographies extending from Nepal and Bhutan to the mining belts of eastern India.
